  •  Excellent. And Kudos again to Dave Wasserman (48+ / 0-)

who has done an amazing and incredibly objective job of keeping all of us so well informed.

His constant accurate analysis is clearly what caused Fairfax election officials to take a harder look at a problem they first would not admit existed.

His careful projections have been spot on without tears or gloating when the numbers kept changing.

I also must say that I am personally impressed with the Republican-led Election officials in Fairfax County and how they have stepped up to handle their problem.

Having followed most of Dave Wasserman's links, it is clear that Virginia has a good system with optical scan ballots that provide a clear paper trail.  I have been 100% against both touch-screen voting which has no trail, and hanging-chad punch card voting.

As an interested citizen but not even a Virginia resident, I have been able to follow all the state links (mostly out of curiosity just to see what they are reporting) and drill down to details of any individual precinct.  Pretty sweet.

The fact that Virginia records not only those who requested early ballots, but also records which of them actually voted and has a paper trail to back it up means that if necessary individual votes can be accurately and relatively easily hand counted.

    Thank you for posting.

Is the Heritage Foundation's arch-vote-suppressor and "voter fraud" panic-monger Hans von Spakovsky—formerly recess-appointed by George W. Bush to the FEC—still on the county Board of Elections?

If so, this makes it all the more impressive—either that he seems to have grown some kind of a conscience, or that they're able to do their jobs despite him.

Virginia counties are forbidden from replacing their existing paperless DREs (Direct Recording Electronic voting machines, usually but not always touchscreens) with new DREs. But most counties still have paperless DREs as their primary systems; I think somewhere around 2/3 of Virginia voters used them this year (with lot of room for error on that estimate). That represents big progress, but obviously not done yet.

Virginia's results reporting is pretty darn good, I agree.
