When the shuttle is smashed they hop over to an empty nearby Russian satalite and when that is smashed they hop over to a nearby empty Chinese satalite and when that is smashed, back down to earth.

      Credible?  No.

      Quelle disapointment.

and tumbling-past-machinery events in a (guessing) 1.5+ hour movie can there be?

Ah, hopping from one space hulk to another to another.

Not two, not three, etc. If the original debris had headed for their space station at higher velocity, it would have been headed into higher orbit.

You simply cannot orbit at whatever speed you like. There is a minimum to get into orbit and a particular speed for a given altitude to maintain orbit.

Higher speed, higher orbit: so the second time those pieces of the Ruski? experiment come hurtling by, I'm thinking "this is BS".

In fact, I couldn't get over the various lack of science or engineering tho Sandra Bullock in skivvies is pretty easy to watch.

How much thrust do you get out of a damned fire-extinguisher? If you've ever pushed the lever on one, you know it aint much and it's no more in the vacuum of space.

Then, there's the fact that Kowalski (Clooney and one of my favorite actors) would not have been joy-riding around, even on his last mission. The astronauts just don't do that and they don't ever go around w/o a tether! Really, one failure of your propulsion system and you are D.E.A.D. So, they don't do it.

My conclusion is that Gravity is worth seeing but if you are a science nut, it makes no more sense than Star Trek or Star Wars. They are fantasy but not science.

Two great actors, good story line (screwd up by aforementioned science lack), fine acting and magnificent effects.

I believe it was James Cameron who said this is the space movie he was waiting for. The 3D in it is mind blowing.

      •  Gravity 3D is great! (0+ / 0-)

But for my money, Life of Pi is the finest 3D movie made with Avatar a close second. Mind you, this is just 3D I'm commenting on: Avatar is tops in sci-fi.
