  •  I resided in Reno a decade or so ago (0+ / 0-)

Don't ask. Johnny Cash probably had to live there for a year before he wrote the song but I digress..

    Geothermal comes to mind.

What are they doing for green energy? it aint hydroelectric, 'cause water is scarce, and sunlight is sparse enough to make gardening difficult and windstorms weren't a problem..

No matter what the media blasts. I'm a citizen and a creator. Not a "consumer."

    •  Reno has geo-power & solar (0+ / 0-)

It has the largest geothermal plant in the country, so far as I know. And the Peppermill casino/hotel is the only such facility that is completely powered by their geothermal well.

Loads of sun, as you say, but no major installations. Those are midstate (Tonapah-way).

Wind has been a disappointment. If you've lived here for any length of time, you know the wind is always blowing come about 5. But wind installations by the city have been a failure (wind is too gusty, not steady).

Every year I see more solar panels up on business buildings and residences. That's the thing that must change NV Energy's mind. We can do the power ourselves with some supplementary help.
