  •  So we should also require psych evaluations for (1+ / 0-)

everyone with a mood disorder, anxiety disorder, psychosis, personality disorder, history of drug use, history of irritability/aggression, major physical illness, history of unemployment, history of failed romantic relationships, lack of social support, unwillingness to ask for help, Asian cultural heritage, or previous exposure to suicidal behavior?

    (Paraphrased from here.)

    Believe nothing. Question everything.

    •  For a transplant... (0+ / 0-)

      anyone WOULD need evaluation for
mood disorder, anxiety disorder, psychosis, current drug use.

Lack of social support is also considered a barrier.

These are normal parts of the evaluation to be listed on a transplant list.

From the original diary and the comments so far, it sounds like this person was likely getting singled out.

BUT the psychiatric evaluation is absolutely stone cold standard of care. Nobody would be listed with currently uncontrolled mood or anxiety disorder. Nobody would be listed with psychosis. Nobody would be listed with an active  substance use disorder for alcohol, street drugs, or prescription medication misuse. Six months would likely be the minimum you'd find for a remission requirement for substance use disorder.

The plural of anecdote is not data.
