If veterans (like Joe, aka Old Timer has done), would get their care through Medicare, it would free up VA staff to provide urgently needed care to other veterans.

I used to go with Joe to the VA, and was astounded at the number of old veterans. And, to be honest, the care was poor, as far as Joe was treated.

    I think, therefore I am. I think.

Absolutely a national shame, how we treat our veterans, in every aspect. But the VA hospital system is the worst of all.
I have several relatives in the nursing professions, and two of them work or have worked at the VA. I was a nurse, though I never worked at the VA. But I think I'm qualified to tell you all that it disgusts me. How can it be that states are allowed to withhold Medicaid funds that would help veterans? How can we allow our soldiers to have anything but the best care?

Mcmom, you are correct. If veterans could get their health care from Medicaid, the VA wouldn't be quite so understaffed, underequipped and the personnel quite so underpaid.

Mr Obama, this is your next job. Thank you for the ACA; now, it's time to enforce care of our soldiers. ENFORCE it, yes. Apparently there are quite a few governors out there, like Perry (TX) who can say, "Oh, no thank you, but we don't NEED any more Medicaid funds." And he can look at himself in the mirror when he shaves in the morning.
I hate to put those words together in one sentence: ENFORCE HEALTH CARE. As if it was a law or something...
