  •  We're getting that (5+ / 0-)

stark, Wyeth look in PA now.  I have mixed feelings.

KBO has a fire going in the library.  It's very cozy.  The ex prefers that we wait until around dinnertime to go back to real life in NJ so he has time to collect his things after work, so we'll be hanging here today.  I'm doing another presentation and roundtable for the client web site tomorrow night so I have to prepare for that and do a bunch of other things today with the domain registrar to officially archive their old site and move over to the new one (which has been up and running for a couple of months but in parallel with the old one). Then I can put full focus on our new site.  I'm months behind in everything, due to the Lyme relapse mostly but back to school time of year really is time consuming too, especially with two in college now.

By the way, the Rutgers debate team is doing really well again this year and so is my son, during his first year as a full time varsity debater. He got off to sort of a slow start this year.  I thought this would be his toughest year, and it probably is, given that he's not a novice anymore and is competing all the time with the upper classmen. But after that slow start he really took off.

Rutgers is #4 in the country behind Yale, Harvard and Brandeis.  They've got one in the top ten speakers. No teams in the top ten teams but that's not surprising since they switch partners all the time and don't have just one team who debates together all the time like some other schools do.  I think they tend to sacrifice top team rankings for the top school rankings.

My son has qualified for nationals already, as have two other upperclassmen.  He's tied for #16 in the country for speaker of the year and he has ranked in both winning teams and top speaker in a lot of the tournaments during the past month or so, even when the tournaments were really big ones where all the teams attended.

At Maryland last weekend, he and his partner ranked very high and he personally was in the top ten speakers.  So he's off and running, it seems :)  I have to figure out when I can go and see him debate. KBO has committed to being stage manager for a holiday show with his Gilbert & Sullivan group so he's tied up for the next couple of weekends.  I think they are going to choose to go to Fordham and George Washington for the next two.  My youngest is on the high school debate team now so he might be interested in going to one, not sure.  Or maybe I'll have to wait until January. There's only one tournament in December.  There really aren't many opportunities for tournaments close by until February when there are three, two in NJ and one in PA, then another in DC.  It looks like he'll be going to Canada for a North Am tournament in Ottawa in January.

      •  Fordham is in the Bronx (4+ / 0-)

Nov 15-16. I hear they have some awesome indoor gardens nearby.

If they go to GW, that's the weekend before Thanksgiving, 22-23.

KBO can't go to either of those.  I'll find out if they are choosing Fordham and/or GW. There are other tournaments on those weekends in Massachusetts and wherever Wesleyan is.   I think they'll do Fordham and GW though.

There's only one tourn weekend in December, first weekend but there are three choices.  I don't know if they'll do Brandeis, UMBC or Williams.

        •  And in winter and spring (4+ / 0-)

there are a lot of good tournaments in February and March.  Nationals are at Penn, so I plan to see as many of those as I can.  The Rutgers tournament will be a big one this year, Valentine's Day weekend. No other tourns that weekend so everybody will be there.  Hopefully snow isn't a problem again this year.
