  •  When I was in high school in 1970, there was a (11+ / 0-)

    state referendum to lower the voting age to 19. It seemed only fair, since 18yo'ds were being drafted and sent off to fight for "freedom", yet weren't allowed to cast a vote.

    That campaign was my launch into participating in politics (OK, OK, there was a girl involved, but still!) I was extremely disappointed when the elders of our state figured it best to keep the voting age at 21.

    However, we did get the last laugh when the 26th Amendment was passed only 9 months later. I got to vote for the first time in the fall of 1971...YES! I have never missed voting since, even for a school board special election.
