    what a co-op is in this context. However, the name of the insurance company we're dealing with is "CoOportunity." It was started with federal seed money.

    I am ignorant on this. Can you tell me a little more about co-ops?

    •  I mis-named them, they are "CO-OPs" (0+ / 0-)

      not cooperatives, but Consumer Operated and Oriented Plans. It seems that yours is one of these.

      Here is a pretty good description of them.

      Bottom line, from the above linked article and quoting from the PPACA, CO-OP "qualified nonprofit issuers must, as directed by the new law, operate with a strong consumer focus and use any profits to lower premiums, improve benefits, or improve the quality of health care delivered to plan members."
