  •  Intrade 2007: HRC will be President (1+ / 0-)

And Intrade merely distilled the polls of the time.  Everyone believed that Senator Clinton would be president.

She wasn't our party's nominee in 2008, when she had everything going for her.  She's a flawed candidate.  She doesn't inspire.  She won't get the nod in 2012.

On our side, it'll be Mayor Castro.

And on the GOP side, Jeb has a better shot than Christie.

    •  HRC's polling ran strong in the (9+ / 0-)

year prior to the Iowa caucus in January of 2008.  She finished third behind Obama and Edwards.

Rudy Giuliani -- the blazing champion of Liberty and the Titan of 9/11 -- ran about as strongly for the Pukes over the same period, only to wind up face down on a swamp-blaster boat in the Everglades with a weak finish in the Florida primary.

Anything can happen.  Well, not anything -- Charles Grassley will not become perceptive, intelligent, and altruistic in the coming months or ever -- but almost anything else has a chance, including a lot of scuffling for position and subsequent polling reflecting voters' preferences.

2014 matters because we need the House back this minute, but also because as 2014 goes, so goes the frame of reference for 2016.

Since then she has been Secretary of State -- and has inspired a lot of younger women.

      •  She also inspires a lot of "older" women (1+ / 0-)

including some died-in-the-wool Republican women I know. She's raised awareness of women's issues and how they relate to peace and prosperity worldwide in a way that none of her predecessors have. I find that very inspiring.

I realize this is a progressive blog and there is some dissatisfaction with some of Hillary's more "centrist" policy prescriptions, but I really think Hillary's chances have improved since 2008 with the general public. The real trick will be for her to find a good campaign team and not repeat the mistakes she made in 2008.

        •  I agree and I am not a Centrist. (0+ / 0-)

I am one of those that will work hard to get her elected and then will probably grumble about her  and protest against her for four years until it's time for her re-election.  That sums up my relationship with the current President as our options are limited.
