  •  I'll refer to a statement made by Obama (8+ / 0-)
According to Mazzetti and Daniel Klaidman's book Kill or Capture, when General James Cartwright asked Obama why the CIA was "building a second Air Force" with its drone fleet, Obama replied "The CIA gets what it wants."

I think if you take that statement literally, a lot of conclusions can be drawn about what he knew and when he knew it, etc.

One other fact -- the intel community says that information from PRISM appears in the daily intelligence briefing on a regular basis.  They've also said that Obama asked for a comprehensive profile of Merkel because he wanted to know all about her before dealing with her. It seems that it would be obvious if any of that info came from phone taps.

    •  O/t, but it's my diary and I can do what I want... (7+ / 0-)

I just finished Mazzetti's "The Way of the Knife" about the transformation of the CIA back into a killing machine under Bush and Obama, after the dark years when they were reduced to merely spying while the military had all the real fun.

Recommended; no earth-shattering revelations, but a lot of welcome detail about the drone war and other wet work.

When you triangulate everything, you can't even roll downhill...
