a Cruzite despotism.  I'm trying to reconcile the idea that it may come to pass.  I love President Obama and it's been hard for  me to contemporaneously disagree with decisions he's made over the past 5 years, but in retrospect, regarding Wall Street, the sequester, the ACA and it's discontents, he's really not been the achiever we wanted.

The R party is much more viable today than anybody dreamed it would be just weeks ago (shutdown)...

    •  You guys are the problem (4+ / 0-)

By "conceive," I assume you mean you'd be semi-OK with it. That thinking is dangerous. Personally, I can't conceive of him winning given the state of the GOP, which is good because I can't remotely conceive this country with him as President. It would be a disaster beyond disaster and we have to stop telling ourselves that somehow it would be OK.

the sense that there's no alternative, anas.  The Republic shall survive Christie if it comes to pass.

On that note, though, I really feel that the Democratic Party had a once-in-a-century chance to crush the Republican party with the toxic Bush legacy of war and economic collapse.      That chance has been blown and the Rs are quite viable and Ds are relatively weaker than they should be.

        President Obama has underperformed.

        •  Country is moving to the left (0+ / 0-)

Even if Christie were to become President, he could only be so conservative because the country as a whole is moving to the left. Back in 1992 Clinton and the DLC Democrats moved to the center because they had no other choice. Clinton wound up moving the entire Democratic party to move center-right, causing the GOP to become the right-wing mess that it is today. Well Christie may well initiate an "RLC" movement in the Republican party, moving his party to the center, thus allowing the Democrats to come back home to the left.

      •  Um, no (0+ / 0-)

I'm not at all okay with the possibility.  I will fight like hell to prevent it.  However, I can't control the tendencies of millions of Americans.

...literally, if my property taxes go up again.
