    Yes!

It looks like it's going to make another appearance at the Kabuki Theater of the Absurd - no doubt led by Harry Reid and other fine upstanding Democratic actors.

And - if we are really, really, lucky, we might get some of that good ol' Reform that Reid has talked about.

The kind of reform that won't apply to bills or Supreme Court nominees, cause gosh, that might be true reform.

And we certainly won't get rid of the Filibuster itself, heavens no!  The Democrats need the Filibuster so they can stop the odious R's like they did when Bush was in power.

Remember all those nasty Supreme Court nominees of Bush that the D's filibustered, forcing Bush to appoint moderates?

Remember how the D's stopped the odious Patriot Act with the filibuster?

And who can forget that stellar performance when the D's stopped the Tax Cuts for the wealthy?

Or how about that time they used a secret filibuster to stop the Iraqi authorization?

What about when the D's filibustered Bush's nominees for Attorney General?  Remember when that nut-ball right-winger Ashcroft was stopped from being AG?

Hows about when Donald Rumsfeld was prevented from being Sec. of Defense?

Why, thank God for that filibuster, eh?  /sarcasm

See, here's the thing:  The D's, who have controlled the Senate for some time, could readily jettison the Filibuster all together.

The defense that they need it to stop the R's is laughable and absurd for it has no basis in fact (witness the few citations above about Bush's term in office).

Rather, the Filibuster is a key prop at the Kabuki Theater of the Absurd, used to prevent truly progressive legislation / appointments from taking place, even when the D's are in power.

It's a wonderful excuse and it saves them every time because people want to believe in it, despite the historical reality.

I'm still waiting to see how they spin the Trans Pacific Partnership as the fault of the R's or somehow blame it on a filibuster.

Or maybe they'll just say to hell with it like Obama did with Columbia, Panama, and S. Korea "Free Trade" and just do it, not caring if the "base" notices or not.

Senate Dems = Lucy and Democratic base = Charlie Brown.

The Democratic Senators who are holding are are protecting a filibuster rule that's only used by... Republicans. It's insane.

Filibuster reform, 2013 - woulda, coulda, shoulda.

      •  not insane.. it makes perfect sense: (0+ / 0-)

It's a wonderful shield as to why the D's can't seem to change the trajectory our country is on, even when they are the majority.
