There were always a few stores open on Thanksgiving, mainly grocery, with limited hours, so you could pick up that forgotten something on the way to see the family.

There are some industries that work Thanksgiving, can't be helped.  Having worked in some of those industries, we tried to be considerate of each other and arrange holiday schedules so that we could spend the most meaningful time with our families.

A fair amount of that time was spent over the Thursday paper, planing out the next morning activities for the "specials".

    That won't happen any more.

The excitement of mapping out the activities to try to get the bargains has been replaced with "door buster specials" of a few high ticket items at a loss leader price.  The items are so few that unless you are one of the first people in line, stay in bed.  Wait a few days until the retailers panic and re-discount a boatload of stuff, not just the loss leaders.

It will still be busy black Friday, and some on Thanksgiving.  But Thanksgiving is quickly becoming just another shopping day where some people are lucky enough to get it off.  Black Friday will become more of just another (yawn) shopping day.  Where's the Profit in that?
