    is what we call the trees growing around the mother tree. I took the picture in the tip jar because the stump had a historical appearance. The holes on the sides looked to be man-made and the shape of the tip of a boot. I could be wrong but I liked the fact that you felt the same way. Most of the trees are not older than 150 years old with the exceptions to the old growth in Big Basin. Nisene Marks State park to the south is another wonderful hiking area with a few old trees.

    I'm glad to trigger your fond memories of the area. I have many also. Did you ever stop at Alice's Restaurant at some point. A fun place to get a bite to eat. All of the places you mentioned are familiar to me except for the dead end. There is some big money folks and some very humble folks living in the mountains. That road speaks money to me.

    I didn't know Lockheed Martin had a site until a fire was named after it. I was surprised at the time.
