    I think your football and possible flatland VA heritage is clouding your interp. Most of the West Virginians I know have generations of family that come from both sides of the state line, this includes my own family from the Princeton WV area. The border between the border counties appears to be a political artifact to me, not a cultural one.

      Football is the reason none of this will ever come to pass (no pun). Penn State is Penn State. Appalachian State is Appalachian State and they don't overlap. Blacksburg is in Virginia. Morgantown is not. That's how the Good Lord made it, and it ain't gonna change.
