    a bit before my time, but that's very impressive for a federal election in the state. Gore won 69.4% two party overall with an insane 66.1% in Appalachia. However Wendell Ford's Kentucky victory is incredible for the fact that he carried uber Republican counties like Jackson that have never voted Democratic for president going all the way back to before Andrew Jackson. I'm still curious to try to find an election in North Carolina where the Democrat carried Avery/Mitchell counties which I don't believe have ever voted Democratic for president and registered Republicans outnumber Democrats like 8-1. There were so many counties in Kentucky and West Virginia where Democratic primary voters outnumbered Republican ones like 9-1.
