    the ease with which it can be turned simply into a way to make it easier for corporations to suck money from schools while indoctrinating children in capitalist (and conservative) ideology.

    There's nothing wrong with the idea of 'common core', or even the chosen components.  You could create wonderful curricula that fulfill common core requirements.

    But... the people who are actually creating many curricula and getting them certified are for-profit RW plutocrats who both want to make tons of money selling to school districts AND provide lessons that subtly (or not so subtly) teach children to think in the ways that capitalism wants them to.

    You could sweep away many of the objections to common core on the left if you paired it with a requirement that common core curricula arise from within actual public classrooms, written by actual public school teachers who are paid bonuses for the materials adopted into common core curricula.
