      day long months. When the Roman calendar was first created they only had 10 months and the calendar ran for 304 days. The remaining part of the year, roughly 2 months of winter, wasn't on the calendar. They just restarted the following March 1st on the new moon closest to the equinox. Getting exact dates for events that occurred in the winter period means trying to match up the 8 day "market cycles" with other events. So something that happened on what is now January 6th 310 BC might've been "day F of the first market cycle of winter". Though by the time Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon in Jan 49BC they had added January and February to the calendar.
