    very much, much as I admire his record. But your comment about Lasker is clearly correct.  Lasker was world champion for 27 years.  To the best of my recollection, that's the record for longevity.

    Of course it should not be forgotten that Lasker and Karpov both had their share of brilliancies, as does Carlsen.

      who developed the theory of primary decomposition. Chess was his second job (and a lucrative one because he was World Champion for so long)

        Some of the best, clearest and easiest to understand chess books were written by Ed Lasker, who I think was Emmanuel Lasker's cousin.

        Even Capablanca acknowledged the quality of Ed's writing.
