  •  Bishops have been hauled up short for less. I'd (5+ / 0-)

like to see the local Cardinal do HIS job, too.  He's next up the ladder.

It would be nice if this came to the attention of the Pope and he, in turn, set certain kinds of people straight...pardon the pun!  (wicked grin)  He's already made it plain that there is more important work for the Church to do, than harping on teh gays.  In that, at least, he's right.

The order of command is laity -> priest -> diocesan bishop -> Pope.  Archbishop and Cardinal are higher ranks and archdioceses often have suffragan bishops and other bishops who answer to the Pope.

Cardinal George, if anything, will issue a similar statement.

"Politics should be the part-time profession of every citizen who would protect the rights and privileges of free people and who would preserve what is good and fruitful in our national heritage." -- Lucille Ball

and had both an Archbishop and a Cardinal.

We didn't hear much, back then, of the religious being reprimanded unless it was for being too liberal in some areas.  Even that was rare. I long for those days to return...when the Church was a force for the rights of the less fortunate.

Thanks for the clarification, though.  It's been a while since I had to think about the hierarchy and how it does things.
