is that the defense will be like this:

Renisha McBride was intoxicated and not thinking clearly when her car broke down in an unknown neighborhood. She stumbled to the first house she saw and began banging on the door and beligerantly demanding that the occupant, Mr. Wafer, let her use his phone.

Mr. Wafer, not knowing that there had been an accident and fearing for his safety because of this strange person banging on his door and making screaming demands grabbed his shotgun, opened the door and fired without thinking, only then realizing that the person was just looking for help.

At the moment of the shooting, and based on the toxicology reports, Wafer's stand your ground defense is actionable because he had no knowledge of the events outside his home and knew only that an intoxicated and beligerant woman was violently demanding entry into his home to use his phone.

At least that's how I see it going, or at least some iteration thereof.

    •  If someone had been yelling and (7+ / 0-)

beating on my door, I would have dialed 911 as fast as my fingers could fly. THEN, if I had a gun, I would have yelled back "I have a gun. What do you want?"

But that's me - an old white woman who lives alone.

      •  I would have called 911 too (0+ / 0-)

        to be honest.

I just think that this is the route that they're going to take, and they're going to go hard against Renisha's past.
