...this came from a right-wing group, and how do you know it's not being investigated with the goal of prosecution?

    •  DHS is investigating (12+ / 0-)

      According to this article.

As for who would stage such attacks, most likely culprits are those who adamantly oppose ACA and have a stake in seeing it fail.

The public should know the results of the investigation.

If cutting Social Security & Medicare benefits for low income seniors is what Democrats do after they win a budget standoff, I'd hate to see what they do after they lose one.

      •  Okay, then why did you say... (4+ / 0-)

..."If someone from a left-wing group (like Anonymous) had coordinated such an attack, it would be investigated rigorously and prosecuted," when, as you acknowledge, this is being investigated?

As for the likely culprit, a right-winger is certainly a possibility.  Other possibilities would be a far-left winger, since those folks have about as many gripes with Obama as the far-righties do.  Or, it could be your average non-political hacker type who saw the most famous web site in the world as an irresistible challenge.

I'd wait and see what the investigation turns up before committing to a theory.

is the key, along with fully informing the public about said investigation, regardless of political consequences.

Left wingers attacking the ACA web site?  Highly unlikely, unless you can provide some links to back up your allegations.

...we don't know how rigorous the investigation is, since it's a pretty recent development.  And I wouldn't expect the public to be informed until the investigation actually gets somewhere.  It may take time, this isn't a tv show.

As for the likeliness of lefties trying to take the site down, I think it's probably less likely than righties, but I could see it happening.  Obama hasn't done much to win friends in the hacker community.

to telegraph high expectations at the outset.  Citizens are more likely to get a response from government if we let them know up front that we're holding them to high standards and accountability.  That hasn't always been the case.

NSA spying, GITMO, torture, bank bailouts, TARP, HAMP, rendition, etc. come to mind.  It's a long list, but I'm sure you get my drift.
