  •  At the library (7+ / 0-)

When I want pre-1960 data I go for the paper and ink!

    America at the Polls
A Handbook of American Presidential Election Statistics, 1920-1964
Elections Research Center (Governmental Affairs Institute) (Book - 1965)

    Also, for further back

United States Presidential Elections, 1788-1860 The Official Results by County and State By Dubin, Michael J. (Book - 2002)

These would probably be non-circulating reference books so if you're looking to enter data from them you could buy it on Amazon for a few bucks.

Ourcampaigns got that NC data (at the link I posted) from the 1957 North Carolina Manual which is an actual book.  I doubt it exists anywhere else.

    •  Physically traveling to the library to search for (0+ / 0-)

that data would move this project from right now to much further down the list of things I want to do... I mean I'm curious to see how pre-1960 candidates did in my Appalachia state, but not that curious. :P FWIW I'm collecting census data back to 1900 to calculate reapportionment for the electoral college, but this week's diary will only go back to Kennedy Nixon most likely.

I can't remember the last time I've actually gone to the library to check out a book... Anytime I've had to use a book source for college it's been from something the university put up online. I'd love for everything in the library to be digitized (stupid copyright, oh well).

      •  I only rarely go to the library for research (0+ / 0-)

To me, if it isn't online, it doesn't exist, usually. There's just not enough hours in the day for it to be any other way.

But when I do end up pawing through the pages I find it quite enjoyable!
