  •  HJR-6: GOP leaders to let their caucuses (3+ / 0-)

decide if it will come up for a vote. Today was organization day for the short session, which means they have 29 maximum days to meet and must adjourn before March 15. Howey reports the majority of the GOP State Central Committee opposes putting this on the ballot, either in 2014 or 2016 (which would be if they pass a different version). The central committees of parties in Indiana are not just a few party bosses in Indy- most of the votes are the CD chairs and vice chairs, plus the 4 state officers, and the two national committeeman (Dems have a few other members with half votes). I would have to say they are worried about many of the statewide races more than legislative races, given the gerrymandered maps and the most competitive State Senate races being in the socially conservative southern part of the state. While it seems the legislative leaders would like this to just go away (they seem to try to avoid talking about it), Howey reports the behind the scenes person pushing it is Gov. Pence.
