  •  Not to say that Nelson wouldn't be a good Gov... (1+ / 0-)

But recent US Senators who have become Governors haven't had a great record terms of becoming popular Governors.

-Sam Brownback (R-KS) - Very unpopular, and trailing a Dem challenger in re-election polls.
-Jon Corzine (D-NJ) - At one point had a 15-72 approval/disapproval rating. Lost to Chris Christie in 2009.
-Lincoln Chafee (I/D-RI) - Again, quite an unpopular Governor, who has declined to run for re-election.
-Mark Dayton (DFL-MN) - Not terribly unpopular, but not particularly popular either, usually breaking even in approval/disapproval polls.

It's not a huge sample size to make statistical inferences from, but perhaps the difference between being a federal legislator and a statewide executive means that Senators struggle at the job? Abercrombie (D-HI), Jindal (R-LA) and Kasich (R-OH) aren't exactly wildly popular either, having being US Representatives in the House.
