  •  You need to turf out Sen. Dianne Feinstein in CA, (0+ / 0-)

an extreme centrist in an increasingly Blue state. This is an unlikely proposition even at the age of 80 given her Senate seniority and continuing ambition.

However, Sen. Carl Levin of Michigan, the other chief obstacle, is retiring and will be replaced in the 2014 mid-terms, presumably by a much younger Democrat such as Rep. Gary Peters.

There are a few others of less seniority still refusing to support filibuster reform.

When Harry Reid has the votes for breaking an absurd filibuster "in his hip pocket", he breaks it. When he doesn't have the votes, he pretends that any further level of filibuster reform beyond what he has the votes for is a bad idea.

Transcript of ALL IN with CHRIS HAYES, July 16, 2013

HAYES: That was you talking about the invocation of the nuclear option, about the 2005 invocation of the nuclear option by then senate majority leader Bill Frist. You saying, look, I think this is a terrible idea.

People watched what happened with you and Mitch McConnell…

Harry Reid: That dealt with lifetime appointments. That isn't what we're talking about here. That's why everyone knew I had the votes in my hip pocket. We were talking about the fact that a president should have the ability, put his team together, and that's what it was all about.
