  •  Perhaps, but I think that liberals are ... (0+ / 0-)

... too used to being on the small side of this asymmetric warfare. When you are a small, closeted minority that is being neglected into the graveyard then persistent, loud, militant activism is very much needed. We had to fight the powers that be and the ignorance of our neighbors. But that is not the case here. These conservative groups are the powerless minorities now. They are a small group of young, ignorant twerps that are trying to provoke us into making some very large, angry, noisy, disruptive theater so that they can sit back and say to the easily persuaded, "See? They are so shrill! You don't want to be associated with them!"

Here are the optics: A small group of clean-cut kids playing a stupid game but not hurting anybody and looking like they are having a lot of fun. Then a larger group of angry, outraged people who are probably going to make a lot of noise and maybe block a major intersection.

I guess my point is that this is not a group of people facing police dogs and fire hoses for the right to vote. Silence would be condoning in that case, of course. This is more like a public Klan meeting that everybody hates. Making it clear that the majority of people do not agree with this behavior is not going to phase these guys. But maybe mocking them in a fun and inclusive way like the "WHITE FLOUR!" guys manage to do might work more in our favor for the mass of the people who simply pay attention to other things.

Please do not be alarmed. We are about to engage... the nozzle.
