The exchanges were designed to give people more healthcare insurance options.  But, one consequence - by design??? - was it isn't just consumers making the call.  Companies can now cut employees loose much more easily and with a much clearer economic gain and instead of taking the blame they can just point at the ACA.

to drop coverage. Because now they have to pay a penalty. Before it was just the market & the tax deduction encouraging them to offer plans. Now it is the market, the tax deduction and the penalty encouraging them.

And don't forget- small employers of <50 employees- employers who traditionally have trouble finding insurance coverage, now gets to buy their group insurance on the exchanges.  So you are looking at potentially a large number of companies starting to insure their employees.
