  •  The few times I've been to D.C., (13+ / 0-)

I've always headed straight for the Lincoln Memorial. If I go back, I will again head straight for the Lincoln Memorial. It has always taken my breath away. And those ten sentences still send a chill down my spine, as well.

I guess appropriately, we discussed slavery today in class. Which turned into us talking about 12 Years a Slave, which I've seen twice now. Then in the lecture, we watched a documentary on the Trail of Tears. It's been a heavy day, and I'm ready for bed.

I don't mind if you're straight. Just don't flaunt it in public.

is quite a literal statement for me.  In order to get to my kid's weekday home, I have to drive across Memorial Bridge, which is literally headed straight for the Memorial.

At twilight, which is the time I most often cross that bridge, it is truly a stunning sight.  And it's part of my daily/weekly "normal".

One of those, "I feel blessed" moments.
