  •  I couldn't tolerate them either (0+ / 0-)

The myalgia was so intense I could not stand up or sit down or turn while I was standing.

I've been looking for a source for red yeast rice -- the actual food, not the useless "extracts" that have had statins removed. I used to live in the SF Bay Area, and it would have been easy to find that in SF Chinatown, but now I live in San Diego, which does not have as large a Chinese community.

All that I have been able to find so far is red fermented bean curd, which is made with red fermented rice and would fly in under the radar of the servants of Big Pharma. I use it in my cooking, but it probably does not provide enough lovastatin to do much good.

The Chinese put red yeast rice, the original source of lovastatin, in many dishes -- especially in pork dishes. It gives a deep red color and an earthy flavor that comes from the fungus that makes the lovastatin.

I had rhabdo so bad once I was on dual IV's, lousy with mannitol.
After that, the slightest myalgia that was global sent me to get my CK levels checked.

End result, I'm not able to tolerate any statin.  :/
Gonna talk to doctor about niacin. There's a nice sustained release version out that shows really good results and less flushing.
