employees - including part time employees - they pay better, hire local and work to make their stores a vital part of the neighborhood.

i love ikea - AND their furniture and toys and comforters and all their "stuff" is high quality and lasts a very long time!

oh, and don't forget ligonberry jam - it rocks!

    •  Ikea labor policies a mish-mash.... (0+ / 0-)

Ikea labor policies defy easy characterization.

For example, Canadian Teamsters are locked out of their jobs  at an Ikea store near Vancouver. That store has been unionized for about 20 years, but the labor-management relations have been rocky all along.

Several Ikea distribution centers/warehouses in the US have been unionized recently, but the entire retail staff in the US is non-union. Ikea had a factory in Virginia that was unionized about three years ago in a big fight that reflected very badly on Ikea's labor practices on its manufacturing side.

Labor relations back home in northern Europe are reported to be much better, but there are simmering issues in Poland and Turkey
