    has a hard time getting material up there and requires
    lots of careful engineering.

    down on the parking lot, you need to secure things
    and you need to dig it all in

      for the support columns, and having to run a lot more wiring.

      Black roofs in Buffalo in January save a ton of heating expenses.  In Phoenix, they'll kill you on cooling in August.

      Additionally, parking lots can be paved with a wide variety of "cool pavements".

      It's probably a different answer at each site.

        more solar PV, more passive design, more insulation,

        but, yeah, in extreme climates the details will vary.

        The cool thing is 2014 predicts to install 50 GW of solar.

        50 Freaking GW.

        that's 10X the number of nuclear plants going in
        worldwide.

        if we keep up this growth rate in a few years,
        solar will bypass nuclear power production entirely.
