  •  I have visited there many times, hoping to not (6+ / 0-)

be driven into despair by interactions with the locals.

    Alas...

    •  Most of the locals doc where I am are (5+ / 0-)

from New York.  I was in rural Ga.  Lived half of my life either in Ga or Fl.   Florida was MUCH better before Scott but Ga in the 20 mile direction either way outside Dekalb is pretty bad and I know where you are and it's pretty backwards there as well.

The schools here are great and the locals as I said are for the most part Italian and kewl !  There is about a 5 degree difference in hot and muggy in Fl and Ga but Fl has a good seabreeze.   Trust me.. a lot of militia in Ga but they don't report it that much.   West and north side and some down south but West off 20 is full of em.

      •  I guess I could be more precise and state that I (4+ / 0-)

live in Atlanta, not 'actually' Georgia.

I used to do a lot of camping and hiking and have been all over the mountainous part of the state. Yeah, a few decent, cool people here and there: the vast majority are here polishing the stereotype.

        •  I'm going to respectfully disagree (0+ / 0-)

As a sort-of-native Georgian and Atlanta area resident myself, I don't find that the majority of Georgians fit the stereotype, let alone the vast majority.  And I have lived in the reddest places of the state.  I love the people of Georgia. Kind, helpful, strong sense of morals, charitable, big believers in hard work.

Now, all that said, sure, there are lots of people who believe in things I disagree with.  We also have a mainstream media that tilts right, and a right-wing noise machine that constantly pumps crazy lies into the minds of the people.  Also lastly, I'd say the state hasn't come to terms with its terrible legacy of treatment of African-Americans and Native Americans, and sure, there are still some racist losers out there.  I'm not trying to whitewash anything.  But I am saying, Georgians are pretty cool.

Carry your water in a Dixie bottle. Won't have to interact at all.

Oh yeah...memorize 6-8 already out-of-context biblical verses, 1 will be apropos in case your directly addressed.
