  •  Oh, no distraction at all (5+ / 0-)

    please, always.

Is that Encinal Canyon or Kanan Dume? Or another I somehow missed in my travels to the area?

I would love to see that live, the fog.

The mountains up out of Malibu are really gorgeous. I took the long route out of Agoura Hills the first time I ever did that, driving by instinct with no map, assuming I would hit Malibu. That was a fun ride in a ragtop Jeep and no responsibilities but to myself.

That was also the first time I took PCH from Malibu to Santa Monica and then the first time I swam at Will Rogers and really saw the Palisades, at dusk. Wow. That was a great day.

That fog shot was climbing over Kanan Dume.
I live on Point Dume which is at the bottom of Kanan.

Well, you did pick some nice locations for your little road trips in this area.

I`m already against the next war.

      •  Another favorite is Topanga Canyon Blvd (0+ / 0-)

and Topanga itself is such a great little hamlet. Yerba Buena is great, too. All of the range crossings between the coast and the valley are gorgeous.

I have a keen sense of direction and I love to drive. When I travel I spend most of my free time driving in new locations.

My first adult trip to LA was to interview for a position at Harvard-Westlake and my family stayed back in Texas, so I was free to explore. I was staying at a friend's place in Studio City and since she was on location in Greenland (filming Last Airbender) I had use of her ragtop Jeep, the perfect vehicle for my purposes.

Coldwater Canyon had me hooked, and it's not even that great, comparatively speaking. Then I discovered Laurel Canyon. That was even better. In fact, they were taking the annual picture at the General Store that week and I got to be in it by sheer luck. I had no idea what the history was at the time.

After my interviews were over I stayed in the city for the next week to explore. Started with any route I could find up and over the Santa Monica's.

When I took 101 out to Augora and sought a route to Malibu Kanan Dume blew my mind. Something about it just really struck me. Beautiful, beautiful area.

Your pictures are a tonic for me. I can feel the sea and sun and smell the chaparral.
