comments about Harry Reid, or the Dems in general. Harry Reid can't do anything unless he has the votes. It seems he now has the votes. It doesn't do any good to kill the filibuster completely as long as we don't have the House. The Senate proudly passed Immigration Reform. And Boehner said he won't allow a vote in the House. So changing the filibuster rules in regard to legislation is presently pointless. SCOTUS is aware of what's going on politically. If someone wants to retire, that person will retire when they know they will be replaced by a person of their same persuasion. If that happens before 1/20/17, and the R's try to prevent a replacement, the Senate Dems can revisit the filibuster rules. Patience is a virtue.

    •  If the Dems include SCOTUS now, they may (0+ / 0-)

get stuck with another Robert Bork.

go nuclear anyway once they are in power thus resulting in another Robert Bork?  Might as well nuke it now while we can do some good with it.

Harry Reid's spinelessness has been the major Democratic blocker since President Obama was inaugurated.

It's absolutely unconscionable that it has taken him this long to decide to actually do anything.

I am going to file cloture in just a second, which I hate to do—another motion to proceed. Boy, if there were ever a time when Tom Udall and Jeff Merkley were prophetic, it is tonight. These two young, fine Senators said it was time to change the rules in the Senate. We did not. They were right. The rest of us were wrong or most of us anyway. What a shame. [...]
      Yeah, gee, what a shame.

      That was from May 2012.
