    I mean, why should anyone think there is either nefarious motive or potential involved?

    Really, the data is only accessible by people who need to know for all the right reasons, right? And they would only use it for that, true?


    Reminds me of when Diebold, upon being exposed for its systems have absolutely no protection from tampering saying something to the effect of: "you are implying that there is some nefarious town clerk out there who is going alter voting results. We just don't believe that's the case." That happened here in Utah, and the town clerk who had the software tested for reliability and security (fail, fail) was fired, because the licensing agreement specifically forbid any kind of scrutiny/testing whatsoever by third parties...
