Of course I might be wrong.  But what I suspect is that I'm spot on.  And those of you who've not yet come to understand the central role racism plays in Tea Party politics will suppress your discomfort by rationalizing away the "facts" regarding the Tea Party's sudden lack of luster.  The effect on the Tea Party of Obama's leaving the White House, should however, be an even more meaningful lesson in the nature and depth of American racism, than his election to office was.

about the fact that racism is heavily intertwined in everything the Tea Party is about, and responsible for very much bad behavior over the last six years. But as many other commenters have pointed out, the Tea Party has been here for a long time, whether under that name or not, and the reasons they're here will not evaporate when the black guy leaves office.

There have been some very good diaries here on DKos that give more historical background on the movement. I especially recommend this one and the links it contains. The news is not good. We are continuing to refight power struggles that go back to the beginnings of this country, even before the civil war. Actually, I guess the news isn't that bad. Progress is slow, but we're winning. Just don't expect them to give up, ever.
