"I can't afford/drive far enough to shop elsewhere"
As I wrote up there a ways ...
In my little home town in MN Wal Mart did their usual:  moving into a town and wiping out the locally owned stores -- office stores, clothing stores, grocery stores, greeting card stores, etc.

Now everyone in town has to shop there because the only alternative is to drive 40 miles away to the nearest non-Wal Mart towns.

No, my 74-year-old mom and 80-year-old aunt can't drive the 80 miles round-trip necessary to avoid shopping at Wal Mart.  I'm sure it's the same for millions of other people.

That's part of the evil of Wal Mart.  By purposefully destroying competition in rural areas, it does indeed force people to shop there.
