  •  The member of Congres who made that comment (0+ / 0-)

was widely criticized on a bipartisan basis. That was an isolated incident. I don't think the President is heckled any more than GWB.

    •  Criticism from the Right was muted (0+ / 0-)

and half-hearted. It was reported in the press and promptly forgotten.

The member is still in office.

If it had been a Dem, the press would NEVER had let it go, the Left would have been all over his ass, and he would NOT have been re-elected, since he would have been forced to resign.

The rules are not the same on the right and the left.

      •  Isn't his re-election and continued service (0+ / 0-)

decided by the voters in his district? And isn't that how our democracy works?

His remarks were completely out of order and reprehensible. One mitigating factor was that he was right. The President made a misstatement on that point in his SOTU address.

        •  Pressure to resign comes from the party the press (0+ / 0-)

and the money guys, not the constituents.

Folks on the right almost never resign, as there is usually little to no pressure on them to resign. People on the left almost always do, since the pressure from the party/press/PACs is enormous.

Also, Wilson TWICE screamed "You lie!" when Obama said: "There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false – the reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally."

What part of the sentence was untrue? The bill specifically excluded undocumented persons from getting government subsidies for health insurance. Even the rightwing Politifact called Wilson's accusation "False".
