It's not a substantive issue, it's a superficial one.  So it is an issue from a political standpoint, but it's clearly not a policy issue.  If the website works in a month it'll be ancient history by November 2014.

Anybody remember the minor processing issues cash-for-clunkers had?  Exactly.

In my opinion, the much more serious political issue is the fact that insurers will inevitably cancel their junk insurance policies and instead offer slightly more expensive policies that are much more comprehensive.  They simply have to -- these plans never provided a basic level of insurance and they were always a Ponzi scheme.  There's no room for junk insurance in the new system, and reforming a healthcare system as fucked up as our old one required some bloodletting.

But Obama told people over and over again that they could keep their horrible coverage which was commonly rescinded after a serious illness.  That's a "read my lips" level political disaster that will be repeated for the next 20 years and beyond, and Obama made the entire Democratic party complicit in it.  We can pass "fixes" that kick the can down the road a few months, but over the long haul we simply need to move everyone over to real insurance, and that means breaking a promise that Democrats repeated for months and months.

    •  Right now, they are cancelling (0+ / 0-)

their "junk" policies and offering ONLY the most expensive substitute they can create.  They do not even MENTION that you may be able to find a lower rate elsewhere, such as ON THE EXCHANGE.  It's like going to a Ford dealer to buy a Focus, and they are all out, but how would you like this Lincoln Continental for three times the money?  Don't bother checking out the GM dealer, the Lincoln is the only other choice.
