    •  Wow! Must-read! (11+ / 0-)

Lawrence Louis' "Czar Reed" is an amazing diary. I strongly recommend it as inspirational reading. He tells how House Speaker Thomas Reed courageously ended the Silent Quorum and the tyranny of the minority.

      •  Excellent post by Lawrence Louis... (0+ / 0-)

The 1890 House had intransigent people in it, but at least some of them seem to have been of average intelligence.

The "big problem" today is that we have a useless Moronic Media that caters to the unintelligent among us and caters to their stupidity by not reporting much of anything even reasonably important - certainly not more than a mere mention in passing - and the 1890 Speaker Reed didn't have religionist reichwingnut Teahadist idiots to deal with (or if he did, it's not apparent in L. L.'s post).  When "reality TV shows" get more people calling in to vote someone off an island or a dance floor than vote for political candidates on election day, you know something is screwed up.

Worse, people with low IQs who want to vote for and elect these reichwingnuttia religious wack-job Teahadists have got Moronic Media actually asking these idiots (like Dumbya for two election cycles and the Tundra Tramp, for instance) serious questions and saying fluffy nice things about them when people with an IQ higher than a rock just want these morons OFF the TV Masheen and OFF the web sites that pass as serious news sites for reasons I've never been able to figure out.  They've been a national embarrassment for 13 and five years.  Isn't that enough?  Then there are the governors of WI & ME & a couple of other states, plus Reps and Senators on a national level who never deviate from saying stupid things who never seem to be called to account for their stupidity.

        I don't understand it.  I really don't.

I'm sick of attempts to steer this nation from principles evolved in The Age of Reason to hallucinations derived from illiterate herdsmen. ~ Crashing Vor

If people get their information from Fox, they will have opinions that do not overlap much with reality.
A LOT of people get their information from Fox.  The problem is not intelligence only, but where the information comes from.
Since the airwaves are federally regulated, we need to bring back the fairness doctrine.  IE if a show says something political, they have to give equal time to the other side.
