got into the weeds on this....very highly rec if you haven't seen it yet....

Neat for the high speed photography of the 6.5 Carcano showing they always yaw on exit from the gelatin and soap....without fail....

As long as it is in the medium it flies perfectly straight, they did 36 inches of pine board and the bullet looked unfired except for rifling marks....hit the gelatin with it and it yaws on exit, hits sideways and squeezes lead out the base which is open......and the Kennedy/Connally bullet is damaged and deformed...on the base only

a skull-like medium on exit, which would affect yaw and while that's all good for the tower shot, it still looks like an additional frontal shot occurs later in the sequence frame 330+

the impact area is enough to defeat the jacket and actually fragment the bullet....

I don't think they tested that by actually shooting a donated skull or a hog skull or something....I can say if human skull in the tough thick areas even approaches a hogs skull I could see it.  I wish they would have included that type of shot test myself but they did have a forensic pathologist making the claim and there was lead in the brain.

This team says that basically for the head shot,  the bullet penetrated but shattered on entrance,  and the forward explosion of blood and tissue was caused by the extreme pressure increase,  delivered via hydrostatic shock,  escaping the easy way through the thin bone of the front of the skull....evidently they found multiple pieces of the head shot round still in the Presidents skull during the 'autopsy' ...

      •  I just cked Lyman 49 and they don't even list it, (0+ / 0-)

Lee shows it as a 30-30's weak cousin with a 165 topping at just over 2kfps...these are weaker I'm sure than either milsurp, which iirc was a 140 that lee shows from 21 to 22, or Norma ( hot stuff usually) .....probably those would have been the only options then but still not a very stout round to say the least.

Interesting projectile shape though and should produce greater wounding than a spire point but at the cost of velocity. should be very stable in flight though with zero slump....similar to a couple 30 caliber bore rider molds I use...... Definitely an interesting ballistics problem     then you hear completely differing reports on Oswald's marksmanship with one guy on TV tonight who was in Oswald's boot platoon who claimed he was some kind of crack shot before ever joining and others I've heard say he barely qualified.....who's to believe?....who knows.....
