    We now pay for minutes spent dialing/waiting/selecting options/on hold/being transferred, and having fruitless conversations with people who may or may not have good answers to our questions.

    Or we cave in and pay Verizon for unlimited minutes, which is pretty much the same thing at greater distance.  

    The whole system of toll-free numbers is due for an update.  The idea that corporations profit when other corporations hire too few people to work their phones -- this  is just nuts.
