My husband passed away 3 years ago but he told this story often.

He was active in the Democratic Party at the local level, living in Bristol TN at that time.  He and 2 others felt there was no good reason why Kennedy should pass on coming to Tennessee so they began lobbying Kennedy's campaign staff. The lobbying eventually paid off with Kennedy making the stop for a brief stump speech. You can imagine how proud my husband remained for the rest of his life at this achievement.

My husband was born in Nashville and, being from the South, was a natural story teller.  I never tired of listening to his life stories and over time I came to know them so well that it felt as if I'd been present with him for every one of them.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. - Margaret Mead -
