View Diary: Why is Thanksgiving more sacred than three other holidays? (127 comments)

    Thanksgiving, however, is a two day holiday - the first day is to jointly worship the gods of bounty and the gods of football.  I have not heard or read in all the stories about people being forced to work on Thanksgiving about all the people involved with putting on the football games, the parades or other celebratory actions.

    The second day is to worship the god Mammon as the Christmas shopping season heads off in full force, and is called Black Friday because that's when stores are about ready to go into the black (from being in the red) over the course of the year.

    None of those other holidays celebrate such uniquely American traditions as football, Thanksgiving (well, Canada has one, but they're in America as well), and shop-for-bargains-till-you-drop like the American consumers do every year.

      football - that's reason enough for celebration.

      i however do have to work, which sucks, and i'm a property manager so i get no holiday pay... sigh...
