  •  Yeah, but how many things are wrong with (4+ / 0-)

seeing the need to live hearth and home to stand in line at 3 AM for an unnecessary consumer electronic device of poor quality and dubious longevity?  That speaks volumes about how wants are turned into needs, regardless of the cost.  Not to mention that this dynamic is why the stores open on T-Day to begin with....

Poor quality of dubious longevity?  Probably not.  One item I can see some people standing in line for is this "65 Samsung TV, regular price $1500, Black Friday price $1000.

Unless you think laptops are unnecessary consumer electronics that no one really needs, maybe it's not silly for someone to wait in line to get $200-300 off the price.

      •  If you cn't see why a 65" TV is a sad reminder (2+ / 0-)

of how Big Corporations use marketing to sucker people into spending their hard-earned cash for stuff they don't need, I'm not sure we can have a discussion.  If a "working class" hero can spend $1000 on a TV, then he is not living paycheck-to-paycheck.

Given your example, I'm not sure I see your point....
