health care coverage when I always hear that they won't come into the exchanges, so that is not true here in Kentucky.

Kentucky has a very high number of persons with chronic health problems.  As one recent assessment from the Kentucky Institute of Medicine stated:

Only 10 of Kentucky's counties are above the national average for physical activity and 78 are above the national average for obesity. [...] For diabetes, Kentucky is above the national average and only sixteen counties are below the national average. Kentucky's rate of adults with limited activities in previous month is above the national average and reflects the state's high disability rate. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in Kentucky. There are 113 counties with rates above the national average. Kentucky's cancer death rate is above the national average with 112 counties having rates above the national average. Kentucky's mortality rate for all counties exceeds the national rate. Premature death rate is a good indicator of overall health status and a high rate reflects a decrease in work productivity and economic development. The premature death rate is above the national average in 88 counties.
(To view these numbers from the proper perspective, Kentucky has 120 counties, 85 of which are considered rural.)

I would suggest that young adults in Kentucky are more likely to have family members suffering from chronic health problems and experiencing premature death then are their peers in other states. Seeing the consequences of poor health among their immediate families may well be spurring them to enroll.

insurance if they can afford it.  They are likely to be sexually active and need the benefits targeted to that.  Maternity care is a big plus for young families.  They probably have either had health problems themselves or have friends and relatives who have.

The trick is to make them aware of the law and the availability of their options.

    •  B B, you are hearing that from those (0+ / 0-)

who are indulging in wishful thinking — and putting it out as propaganda.

They think young people are stupid.
