be Democrats, still are to a large extent, though they don't all vote that way anymore. To people in Eastern Kentucky, national Democrats are one thing, but local Democrats still represent the UMW, and they're not going to take your guns and bibles away. In 2008 Mitch McConnell only got 39% of the vote in Breathitt County, KY. If Mitch gets killed in places like that because of Kentucky's new health exchange and Medicaid expansion (Obamacare), he could very well lose the state.

    •  And yet... (0+ / 0-)

      In 2012, Romney 66% / Obama 31%.  Wow.

Obama lost 53-44%, so while he did worse last year (probably because of coal), it didn't go from a blue county to a red county. In 2011 the Dem governor won Breathitt 55-31%.

      •  Important reasons are... (0+ / 0-)

        1. Obama is black, therefore they need to qualify someone to look down on.
         2. Not only black, but he is an outsider. Two big strikes.
         3. County and state races are local and the candidates are KNOWN and WHITE.
         4. Almost ALL incumbents win that are trying to. The name recognition is enough.
