    The American home owners got into imitating the British gentry, who obsessed over their lawns. (A man's home is his castle.)

    But in most countries, ordinary home owners divide their available open area between a garden, a patio, and maybe a recreational area. You see this often with immigrants. But that first generation gets Americanized and wants to have that perfect monocultural lawn as God, the Founding Fathers, and Mother Nature presumably intended.

    Just another underemployed IT professional computer geek.
