  •  Thanks peregrine kate (3+ / 0-)

It was so sad and tragic, on so many levels,

    -- you have no idea!

On second thought, maybe you do.

Thanks for all your support pk,

and the "service" you provide to so many,
    in this far-flung, virtual community.

you are a saint.  or a close facsimile, of one.

would disagree! I appreciate the counter-opinion, however, and I'll make it a point to share your comment.

More seriously--I myself have had excellent care at most steps of the way. The only time it was less than optimal was when I dealt with a radiologist who had a terribly discouraging manner. (I heard from other people on my team that I should not give much credence to that shortcoming, since as a technician he is impeccable.) However, as it happened, when I was scheduled to have radiation treatments my tumors had spread, making the radiation therapy moot. Talk about a case of being careful what you wish for!

But despite some very big scares early on, I have had good outcomes so far, with the fallout for me and my family being mostly on the emotional level. Not to minimize that aspect--but for now, I am healthy and in remission. If at some point my health deteriorates, then we shall see if my team will rise to the occasion.

If I can figure out some way to put my convictions into action, it would be to argue for optimal treatment for every single person with cancer. The support I've received shouldn't be above average or a matter of luck; it should be the norm.

I know you will always wish you could have done more for your mother, but please know that you did what you could. So much works against us in this situation, it is hard to get past the business-as-usual response.

      Heart hugs.

        knock on wood.

        here's to your continued wellness.

I like your idea, on "optimal treatment for every single person with cancer."

That could have made all the difference with my Mom,
perhaps even removing the tumor, before it got out of control,
-- due to all the delays, and missed diagnosis' ...

appreciate comments peregrine kate, stay well, stay active.
